Old Leigh (Leigh-on-Sea)
The original fishing village, a ten-minute walk down from Leigh Broadway and a different world to the main resort. Cobbled lanes, working cockle sheds, the Thames barges moored off the strand, and pubs that have been there for centuries. Osborne Bros and the other shellfish stalls sell cockles, prawns and jellied eels to eat on the wall watching the tide. Best at golden hour. The single most date-friendly square mile in the whole area.
The Cliffs and Cliff Gardens (Westcliff)
The clifftop gardens running west from the pier toward Westcliff give you the estuary view without the arcade noise. Leigh Broadway

The Sand Bar / seafront bars (Western Esplanade)
